I started this series of blogs and then school started back up and i haven’t finished it yet. so i’m picking it back up starting……NOW.
All of the following deal with how we relate to each other.
#3 Friends and fellow believers
This one is pretty cut and dry. Having other people with us on the journey helps a ton. you have people to laugh with, cry with, and share with. Being around friends is one of my most treasured things in life. I consider it one of God’s greatest gifts to mankind(besides Jesus).
Here are some scripture that reiterate the fact that we need others to help us in life:
Proverbs 27:17
17 As iron sharpens iron,
so one man sharpens another.
Galatians 6:1-2
Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted. 2 Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.
Genesis 2:18
18 Then the Lord God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.”
#4 Confession (aka total honesty)
A specific action that fellow believers should do in connection with other believers is confessing our sins. James 5:16 says, “Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.”
Me and a close friend of mine have been starting to confess our sins to each other during this past semester and continuing into this semester. It has been AWESOME and EXTREMELY humbling. I challenge all believers to find a fellow believer they trust and to do this at least once a week and to pray with one another too. This has been a continuous encouragement each week as well as a great pride breaker as i confess my short comings before God and My friend. By doing so you will be able to expose your evil deeds and bring them to light where they can be healed (Ephesians 5:11-14), and it helps you to not feel alone in your struggle toward Holiness.
NOTE: we need to confess our sins to God as well. confessing to a friend does not excuse us from this. we must confess our sins to God because He is the only one that can forgive sin (1 John 1:9).
#5 Pray
James 5 also says “to pray for one another.” In our relationships with other people–both brothers in Christ and friends–we should pray for them. We can’t make it through this life the way Christ intended us to without talking to the one that knows everything we need to know about living life.
Prayer in general is necessary in life. Paul says in 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” God longs for us to pray to Him. He made you, why wouldn’t he want to talk to you? so as the Nike commercials say, “Just do it.”
#6 Serving in love
This can be both the easiest and hardest thing to do. For those that we get along with really well and are really close to it comes pretty easily, but when it is someone you don’t like(maybe even hate) or if it is someone you don’t know then we find this to be one of the hardest things in the world to do. All in all, it is worth it.
here is what God has to say about it:
Galatians 5:13
For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.
1 Peter 4:8-11
Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins. Show hospitality to one another without grumbling. As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace: 11 whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies—in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.
Mark 12:30-31
30 And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ 31 The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”
