So i was reading a book for my systematic theology class today and came across the best description of what prayer is ever!!!
The book is by Bruce Ware and is called “God’s lesser Glory: The diminished God of Open theism.” The book is not on prayer, but in Ware’s discussion on how holding a heretical open theistic view effects prayer he gives a great description of what true prayer is based on what Jesus prayed; “your will be done(matthew 6:10). Here is the description: “We pray not to contribute to the shaping of an evolving divine will[as proposed by open theist] but to align ourselves with the purposes and directives of a will so perfect and wise and fully informed[aka God's will] that we would be fools to attempt to alter it, were that even possible.”
We pray to God not to change God’s will but to change our own! It is all about God! That is awesome because the things that i will and desire are selfish and biased while God’s will is perfect!
